16 killed in clash between NPA rebels and Manobo tribesmen in Agusan del Sur

SAN FRANCISCO, Agusan del Sur, Philippines —A clash between Manobo tribal warrior and New People’s Army occurred in Prosperidad town in Agusan del Sur on Tuesday morning. The Philippine Military reported that there are least 12 New People’s Army rebels were killed in a clash against the brave Manobo tribal combatant. 

 In an interview with Colonel Henry Dar, deputy commander of the Philippine Army’s 401st Brigade, he said that the clash started when the NPA rebels attacked the house of Datu Kalpit in the village of Sta. Irene. The Manobo warrior fought back and managed to kill 12 rebels while four of their tribal warriors were also killed in a fight. 

 Major General Ricardo Visaya, 4th Infantry Division Commander believed that the NPA have used all of their forces in Surigao and Agusan del Sur area to conduct the attack. He then further added, “This is a proof that their armed forces are weakening and their numbers are decreasing.” 

 Visaya also have said that their intelligence officers had known and fully aware of the coming attack of the NPA rebels and that the Manobo tribesmen had the time to arm themselves before the two hour firefight has took place.
