Malacañang Palace Hands-Off On Calls On Aquino’s Reelection

MANILA, Philippines – Malacañang reminded the public on Sunday that the it had no hand in the re-election of President Benigno Aquino III as many netizens are calling for in the social media. It  said that the Philippine constitution prohibited the re-election of the President as the Presidency has only a 6 -year term.

Communication Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said over the radio that whatever the people said about Aquino’s re-election, the Philippine constitution will always prevail. He then said that Filipino should always respect the Philippine Constitution. He also made it clear that Malacañang had nothing to do with such claims.

Filipino supporters have been sending messages and photos requesting for another term “ One More Term” and “Re-Elect Pnoy for 2016 on Presiden Aqunio’s Facebook Page which is currently having the number of more than 4 million followers.

Coloma, however, said that such calls were not unexpected because of the nature of social media as nobody can  control what is going to happen in social media. They will just remind the public of the constitutional provision that a president only has one term consisting of six years.

Aquino has lately been receiving criticism for several issues, particularly the Disbursement Acceleration Program. But Aquino’s followers have also started calling out to support for the struggling president.
