Deaf-mute makes pageant history


A deaf-mute student named Princess Pura proved to stand her dream of being a beauty queen. For the first time in Philippine national pageant history, Pura  who passed the final screening for national contest has broken unspoken barriers will hold its debut presentation next week.
Pura,  17, one of the 23 official candidates in the first “Queen of the Philippines” beauty contest. On Friday at the press presentation of the beauty queen candidates in Quezon City, Pura made a surprising entry by presenting herself in sign language.
 Yet, she seemed nervous as she walked wearing a cocktail dress and swimwear in front of people comprising of guests and media. With a heigh of 5’7”, the awareness that she was certainly part of the show made her look more confident as she smiled to the crowd.
The “Queen of the Philippines” beauty contest is organized by Ovette Ricalde, of Megastar Productions. Pura and the rest of the candidates will compete for three titles – Face of Beauty International, Face of the World, and Miss Yacht Model International.
The grand coronation night will be held at the Subic Bay Yacht Club, Subic Bay Free Zone on August 1.
Pura was discovered by Mars P. Galang when she was still 11 years old. He finds Pura a shy girl and needs to boost her self confidence. Galang discovered her at the Philippines School for the Deaf in Pasay City, where his son was also a student.
Pura who possesses beauty and height,  told Galang that she wants to be a beauty queen someday but she does not how to be start with her dream so Galang gave her the opportunity be become a model before she joined the beauty contest. Puras first stretch in a beauty contest was when she joined  Teen Faces Ad  Model Search in Greenhills in San Juan City.
