MANILA,
Philippines - The Department of National Defense will start communicating to its international
informants to verify the widespread reports that the Islamic State of Iraq and
Syria (ISIS) group is currently recruiting and training Filipinos.
Defense
Secretary Voltaire Gazmin admitted that the reports about the alleged recruit
of the ISIS had surprised the entire military.
“They
(military) were surprised because they did not monitor such activities or
movements of Filipinos in the southern part of the Philippines,” Gazmin told
radio station dzRH Thursday.
ISIS, as
seen on an uploaded video, is murdering several non-Muslims in Iraq to address
its intention in forming an Islamic state in the Middle East.
Former President
Fidel Ramos told ABS-CBN News Channel his belief that about 100 young Filipino
Muslims is already being trained by the extremist group in Iraq.
Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte told he is
receiving links that there were Filipinos traveling to the Middle East to join
a war.
