Mayor Duterte refuses De Lima’s ice bucket challenge

Davao City –The Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte refused the widespread ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) ice bucket challenge due to his previous hospitalization caused by his pneumonia.

“I respectfully decline the invitation. Kalalabas ko lang sa ospital, na pneumonia ako, baka magbalik,” Duterte said in an interview.

He said that he was at the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for four days due to his health condition, and that the challenge, referring to the frosty water, is not suitable up to this moment.

He added that he is not aware of this ALS ice bucket challenge.

 “I do not know the mechanics of this challenge. Titingnan ko muna kung ano ‘yan (I will check first what that is all about),” Duterte said.

Aside from Mayor Duterte’s nomination, Justice Secretary Leila De Lima also nominated Secretary Panfilo Lacson, and Congressman Niel Tupas.
