Philippine Has Developed Unmanned Aerial Vehicles

A screen capture of the UAV during take-off

Did you know that Philippines have developed a homegrown practical, but less costly Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) prototypes a decade ago? Yes, it is true. The joint project of the Philippine Army and OB Mapua and Partners firm with Architect Oscar Mapua as the main designer came up with a very useful project that every Filipino must be proud of.

They have made five UAV models which then namely Rica, Rufa, Alexandra, Assunta and Claudia. These UAVs are not that sophisticated foreign type or made from contemporary materials, but it propeller-driven and made from of-the-shelf materials such as wood, foam, fiberglass and aluminum tubes.

Assunta, one of the prototype was designed with a wing span of  about 120 inches and 50 inches in length equipped with 40cc two-stroke gasoline engine. It has a weight of 30 pounds and can be able to reach  to a maximum speed of 148km/hr. It can stay airborne up to 2000 ft for 2 hours and has a full range of 20km.

Each UAV has the amount of roughly from P250 thousand to 1 million pesos with complete avionics, system and control station, which completely low cost rate for a typical UAVV. However, the development of these UAVs stopped due to the suspected corruption in the Armed Forces of the Philippines. SourcesANC Future Perfect: Philippine-Made Unmanned Aerial Vehicles 4/6
