MANILA, Philippines –
Since Binay remains a member of the Cabinet, Presidential Communications
Operations Office Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. believes that still enjoys the
trust and confidence of President Aquino.
Coloma told state-owned
dzRB, he has no information on conversations between the Aquino and Binay on
the Senate investigation into the alleged overpricing of an annex building of
the Makati City Hall.
“As far as I know, the
two have a good relationship,” he said in Filipino.
Coloma said Malacañang
would leave to Binay the decision on whether to accept Senate’s invitation to
attend the hearing on the alleged overpriced building and might as well answer
the complaints that he and his son, Makati Junjun Binay denied.
“It’s the decision of
the Vice President,” he said in Filipino.
“We leave that process
to the Senate because that’s within their jurisdiction.”
Presidential spokesmen Edwin Lacierda said
the allegations against the two Binays were for actions during his tenure as
mayor and his son’s participation as the current official of Makati, and not in
connection with his current positions as member of Aquino’s Cabinet.
While
Deputy presidential spokesman Abigail Valte Quite declined to set a label
on the relationship between Aquino and Binay, saying the latter is
part of the official family of the President.
