AFP And PNP Troops Clash With NPA Rebels In Davao


MANILA, Philippines — Military official Captain Alberto Caber  said on Wednesday that  Personnel of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP)  together with  the Philippine National Police (PNP) clash with an estimated 30 members of the New People’s Army (NPA) on  Tuesday afternoon.

“The government troops from the 84th Infantry Battalion (IB) and PNP Special Action Force (SAF) were on their usual routine of monitoring Talomo Mountain in the upper portions of Barangays Baracatan and Catigan in Davao City when the encounter happened,” said by Caber who is Captain of Public Information Chief of the Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincom).

“They were conducting security patrols, the PNP and the 84th IB in the area when the encounter happened,” Caber continued.

Further,he  added that the AFP and the PNP conduct a regular operation to “protect the people in the respective area from harassment, coercion and deception by the NPA.”


Throughout the 30-minute firefight, five members of the SAF and one member from the 84th IB and were immediately treated.

However, Caber could not provide an approximate figure on the counts of wounded rebels who withdrew after the firefight.
