MANILA, Philippines — Yesterday,
Malacañang moderated gossips of a coup d'état against President Benigno Aquino
III. President Spokesperson Edwin said in his earlier statement that he is
dismissing the false rumors about the destabilization plan. However, he refused
to give comment on the reliability of
reported move.
He said that there is no
such certainty to the coup rumors as he quoted AFP spokesperson Lt. Col. Ramon
Zagala as saying at a televised press update. Lacierda also said that the
military rebellion will only succeed if the active men and women of APF will
participate in the said plot.
However, AFP officials
and file members are not interested in the supposed destabilization plot since
they recognize the Aquino administration's efforts to improve the welfare of
soldiers, noted by Lacierda. He said that there is no impatience in the Armed
Forces of the Philippines.
The Palace is not worried
by the probability of those against the President joining the calls for a
destabilization move. In fact the administration is not concerned about it and
he proudly stressed that a loyalty check among AFP member is not necessary.
There are media reports
say that Senator Antonio Trillanes IV claimed that some retired AFP generals
are plotting to oust the Aquino government while Lacierda responded that the
Palace respects Trillanes' statements.
Trillanes, who is a former
navy officer was imprisoned during the Arroyo administration for his connection
in the July 2003 Oakwood mutiny. He was also charged for the Manila Peninsula
siege in November 2007.
