Police arrests Sayyaf member in Malaysia killings

ZAMBOANGA CITY – A suspected member of the Abu Sayaff group linked to kidnappings in Sabah, Malaysia, arrested by the Security forces following a raid in Tawi-Tawi province.
Based from the intelligent reports, the Director Getulio Napenas, head of the Philippine National Police's Special Action Force, identified the arrested bandit as Mobin Hailil. During the operation, a pistol and fragmentation grenade were
confiscated from Hailil.
Napenas said that members of the 5th Special Action Battalion were arrested Hailil in Barangay Sanga-Sanga in Bongao town last August 26.

The Sayyaf member is also being connected to the murdering of a Malaysian policeman Kpl Rajah Jamuan, 32, on Mabul Water Bungalow Resort during an Abu Sayyaf raid in July this year. Rajah’s companion Kons Zakiah Alejp, 26, was kidnapped by the Abu Sayyaf and is being held for ransom in Mindanao.

The information relating to his Abu Sayyaf activities that were passed to Philippine authorities was said to be the reason why the security forces were able to trail down Hailil.

Napenas said Hailil was involved in kidnappings and killings in Mabbul Island in Malaysia.
Eastern Sabah Security Command Intelligence Director Datuk Ahmad Nadzer Nordin said at least 14 groups from Mindanao were involved in cross-border kidnappings in Sabah.

According to Malaysia’s Star Online, has quoted in a report by former Abu Sayyaf hostage and Mindanao State University lecturer Octavio Dinampo allegedly implying that Hailil is “an intelligence gatherer for Abu Sayyaf, whose main duty is to identify possible targets for the gunmen to kidnap.”
